The training commenced on Saturday, 11th December, 2011 at about 10am with a former opening ceremony as organized Agaie Consultative Forum. The event lasted for about an hour and was graced by the representative of the Emir and paramount ruler of the Agaie Emirate Dr Baba Shehu Agaie. The representative of the emir, highlighted the importance of the training to the development of the emirate council and urged the selected participants to take the training (digital literacy and the renewable energy) serious.

In the renewable energy section of the training, the details of what the participants were taught are as follows: At the first day, participants were introduced to the various types of energy systems and their impact on the enevironment, thereby making a case for renewable energy systems. Thereafter the participants were also introduced to the various types of renewable energy systems, the pros and cons as well as their requirement. Furthermore, the participants were also made to understand in details the components required for a complete solar based system. They were also introduced to the individual components as well as the different types applicable. The day ended with practical hands on session on the functionalities, operations and measurements on the various components.

At the end of the Day 1 Training, the participants were able to do the following:

  • Understand the Solar technologies and the types of PV system.
  • Identify the basic components of the Solar PV system.
  • Understand the functionality of the the components of the Solar PV system.
  • Connect and measure the voltages across the PV in series and parallel modes.
  • Connect and measure the voltages across the DC batteries in series and parallel modes.

At the end of the Day 2 Training, the participants were able to do the following:
  • Understand the design principles of the Solar PV system.
  • Determine and select the components required for a PV system.
  • Calculate the load requirement for a basic household application.
  • Estimation the power rating of the PV components required for basic household application.
  • Interconnect the PV components to form a complete PV system.
  • Install the complete PV system for basic household application.

Accomplishements on Training

At end of the 2-days capacity development training on renewable energy systems for agaie community the following was achieved:
